Movie Research: Elf

What elements (Conventions) of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?

In Elf, they use forced perspective to show that Buddy is bigger than the other elves in the room. Forced perspective is when the camera is set up in a position to show something or someone to be bigger than other things or people in the scene. They also decided to have Will Ferrell run around New York City dressed as an elf with a camera crew running around with him. This made the movie funnier because they people around him were not actors, they were regular people doing what they normally do.

What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that you like?

I really liked how they used the positioning of the camera to make Buddy the elf seem so much bigger than the other elves. I also liked how they used humiliating action to make the audience laugh by having Buddy walk through New York City dressed like an elf and act like a child. I also liked the deadpan delivery in this movie to make Buddy’s lines even funnier.

What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?

I really like this movie. There’s really nothing I don’t like about it. If I had to pick one thing it would be Walter not being nice to Buddy.
