Movie Research: Spaceballs

Image
What elements (Conventions) of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? Spaceballs includes many of the conventions of comedy films including a very funny script. One of the common camera movements in the comedy genre is when the camera gets hit by something in the movie. In Spaceballs, Dark Helmet gets hit by the camera after saying “There is only one man who would dare give me the raspberry…Lone Starr.” This is funny because we thought the camera was zooming in on his face, but then it hit him, and he fell over. One common acting technique in comedy films is violence for laughs. In Spaceballs, this is used in the schwartz fight scene between Dark Helmet and Lone Starr when Dark Helmet accidentally hits one of the film crew and blames it on Lone Starr. Another common acting technique is when they use deadpan delivery. This is used in Spaceballs when Dark Helmet and Colonel Sandurz are watching the movie to find out where Lone Starr, Barf, Dot Matrix,

Movie Research: Home Alone

What elements (Conventions) of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? Home Alone uses close shots to make a scene funnier, like when Marv tries to enter the McCallister’s house using the doggy door, and when Kevin’s mom realizes that he’s not there and yells “KEVIN!” They also use violence as humor, like when Marv gets hit in the head with an iron and when Harry’s head gets lit on fire. When Harry and Marv are trying to break into Kevin’s house there are a lot of quick cuts between scenes of them being in pain.   What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that you like? I really like the traps that Kevin sets in his house. I also like the slapstick comedy because its funny that a kid always wins against two idiots. I especially like when they zoom in during scenes to make the scene funnier and when they switch to a camera showing the same scene from a funnier angle.   What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movi

Movie Research: Elf

Image
What elements (Conventions) of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? In Elf, they use forced perspective to show that Buddy is bigger than the other elves in the room. Forced perspective is when the camera is set up in a position to show something or someone to be bigger than other things or people in the scene. They also decided to have Will Ferrell run around New York City dressed as an elf with a camera crew running around with him. This made the movie funnier because they people around him were not actors, they were regular people doing what they normally do.   What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that you like? I really liked how they used the positioning of the camera to make Buddy the elf seem so much bigger than the other elves. I also liked how they used humiliating action to make the audience laugh by having Buddy walk through New York City dressed like an elf and act like a child. I also liked the deadpan d

Genre Decision Blog

After researching different genres for my movie, I have decided to make my movie a comedy. I decided this because my movie is about a boy who turns invisible one day and I think that this could be funny. Comedies make people smile and laugh and I would like to make a movie that does this. I am planning on doing some funny things in the first two minutes of my movie so this genre makes sense. I might not include any fart jokes in my movie. It would be cool to make an action movie or a war movie, but I don't have explosions to make a great action movie or a battlefield to make a war movie.

My Pitch

Pitch A:   A boy is watching a scary movie with his brother when he hears the doorbell ring. Pitch B:   A boy wakes up one morning and realizes his family members can’t see him. In Pitch A, a boy and his brother are home alone watching a scary movie. They are worried they may have made the wrong choice of movie. Suddenly they hear knocking at their door. They pause the movie and listen. They hear more knocking and unusual sounds outside. Finally, they work up the courage to answer the door… and it’s the pizza delivery man. In Pitch B, a boy wakes up one morning and heads to the kitchen as usual. But when he gets there and says hello to his mother, she can hear him, but she can’t see him. He is literally right in front of her, and she cannot see him. Once he realizes what’s happening, he decides to go for mischief. A funny morning of pranks follows. My final decision: Since I actually don’t love scary movies, I’ve decided to do Pitch B – the invisible boy. I think it would be re

Group Blog: Final Task

This is the third project that we've done this year. The first one we had to do by ourselves. The second and third ones we had a choice to work in a group. I really wanted to do the music video with a group, but when it was time to find your group, no one asked if I would join their group. I asked a few people, but they already had a group and it didn't include me. I was pretty disappointed because I thought it would be fun to do that project with a group. But I also knew it would be hard to agree on everything and coordinate schedules, so I convinced myself that was best. And I had fun filming my own video and doing the editing, so it worked out well.       For this project I wanted to be part of a group, but this time, most people were working in their same group from last time, so there wasn't a group for me. I'm disappointed, but I realize that there are some advantages. One of these advantages is I can work on the project when I want to not when other people

My name is Ryan. I'm 15 years old and I am a sophomore in high school. My favorite things to do are listen to music, play basketball, and read. I also like to play video games. My favorite video games are Jedi: Fallen Order, Marvel's Spider-Man (spiderman ps4), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom, and Minecraft. I enjoy watching movies/tv shows with my family. A few of my favorites are Marvel (especially  Spiderman)  and Star Wars. I like sleeping late but unfortunately I get up at 6:30 every day for school.     I'm very interested in learning about space. It's so cool to think that there might be life on other planets. I think it would be really neat to go to space one day. I have been to the Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. several times. I like looking at the different types of spacecraft and planes in the museum. It's really cool to see how the designs and mechanics have changed over time. In July I went to NASA's Jet
