Production Blog: Putting it All Together Part 1

Image
Counting Stars by OneRepublic Now that all of my scenes were shot, it was time to put it all together. The first thing I did was watch every clip I had filmed to decide which take to use for each scene. I put all of the good clips into a separate folder on my computer so that I would have them all in one place. I also played the song on my phone and did a screen recording. Then, I uploaded everything to Capcut. My first step in Capcut was to reorder all of the videos so that they would be in the correct order. Then I started to edit things together, but I got very frustrated because it wouldn’t allow me to cut my videos down. So, I had to search for another way to do it. I tried to edit the videos down on my computer and discovered that Microsoft has a video editing program called Clipchamp. I uploaded all of my scenes and the recorded song to Microsoft Clipchamp and decided to try editing my video there. In Microsoft Clipchamp, I put the recorded song in for the audio and the

Counting Stars by OneRepublic When I started filming the scenes at my house, I started with the scenes in my bedroom. I positioned the camera above my head so that it would face down on me. I had to take multiple shots because my brother kept walking in and making me laugh. After my brother left the room, I did two takes for the scene and chose the better one to use in my video. In this scene I used a medium close-up shot. Then I went into my backyard to film the scenes there. The first scene in my backyard was shorter that the second scene. I took two takes for each scene in the backyard as well. In the first scene in my backyard, I used a dutch shot. For the second scene, I used a wide shot and zoomed in on me. After I finished filming these scenes, I waited for the sky to get dark.  When the sky got dark, I went to my front yard and filmed the final scene. At first it was too dark to see me, so I moved to another spot. Since it was also too dark there I moved again. In the third sp

Production Blog: At the Park

Counting Stars by OneRepublic When I created by storyboard, I decided to film a few of my scenes in a park, so today I went to the park to film them. The first spot I went to was a huge old Banyan tree with lots and lots of vines hanging down from it. I had two scenes that I needed to film here. For the first one, I did a wide shot showing me with the tree in the background. For the second one, I chose to do a medium shot at a different spot in front of the tree. I filmed each of these scenes twice. In between filming each take, I reviewed each shot to make sure I liked it. The next spot I went to was a big viewing tower that looks like a tree house. It has three different levels, but when I went up to the higher levels, it was hard to see me in the shot, so I decided to film from the lowest level. There were three different scenes to film at the tree house, but I made sure to move around a little so that each shot is a little different from the others. When I filmed the first scene, I

Production Blog: Planning it All Out

Counting Stars by OneRepublic This week, I've been working hard to plan out all of the details for the scenes I'm going to shoot at the park. I'm hoping that if I plan well, I can do them all in just one trip to the park. My original plan was to go last weekend, but Saturday I had a chemistry lab. As a result I was too busy with homework to make it to the park. Instead I'm going to go this weekend. My plan is to first film scenes 4 and 8. These scenes are both near a tree with lots of vines hanging down. I'm planning to do two takes for each scene. That way if there are any problems when I go to edit I'll have options. Right next to the tree with vines is the tree house, so I'll go there next. I'll film scenes 5, 7 and 11 there. Again, I will do two takes for each scene. Then I will find an area that has a path I can walk down. Here I will film scenes 6 and 9 here. Like the others, I'm planning to do two takes. If its crowded or I can't shoot the

Production Blog: Getting Started

Image
Counting Stars by OneRepublic The first thing I did to start making my video was review my storyboard to see if I should change anything in it. I decided not to change anything in the storyboard for now. After that I finalized my locations and decided where I would put the camera to film each scene. Another thing I did was decide what costumes and props I wanted to use for each scene. Then I started filming my video. I did the first and third scenes with me lying in my bed looking up at the ceiling singing the first lyric of the song. In these scenes I will be using a medium close-up shot to show me. I didn't use any props and since I was under my blanket you can't see any costumes in these scenes. Because of this there is no point in listing the costumes and props for those scenes. In order to get a good shot, the person filming needed to be standing over me so that the camera was above my head. For the second and tenth scenes I went out to my backyard and decided to use a bas

Storyboard for my Music Video

Counting Stars by One Republic Scene 1: In the first scene, I will be lying down in my bed. I will sing the first two lines of the lyrics for my song. Scene 2: In the second scene, I will be in my back yard. Scene 3: In the third scene, I will cut back to me lying down in my bed. Scene 4: In the fourth scene, I will be swinging on a vine. I chose this because at this point in the song it says "I see this life, like a swinging vine" Scene 5: In the fifth scene, I will be singing the song from a tree house window. Scene 6: In the sixth scene, I will be walking down a path. Scene 7: In the seventh scene, I will be back at the treehouse. Scene 8: In the eighth scene, I wil be at the vine again. Scene 9: In the ninth scene, I will be walking down a path again. Scene 10: In the tenth scene, I will be in my backyard. Scene 11: In the eleventh scene, I will be at the treehouse again. Scene 12: In the twelfth and final scene, I will be lying down in my front yard looking up at stars.

Planning for My Music Video

Image
Counting Stars by One Republic Costumes:  I will wear regular every day clothes in the video. If I decide to cutaway between two scenes, then I'll have two different outfits. Location:  I'm going to have a few different locations. I will use my house - both outside and in a bedroom or on a couch. I will also film some of the singing in a local park. Schedule:  I'm going to start filming on October 14, so that I can have some of the scenes done that weekend. I will also film the following weekend. If necessary, I will do some filming after school during the week of October 16. I plan to finish filming on October 24 when we do not have school. Props:  I'm not sure if I'm going to use any props. I'll think about this when I do the storyboard and when I'm shooting the video. Backup plan:  If for some reason I can't do something when I have planned to, or I can't use a certain location, then I will find another time or location to film.

Counting Stars genre: folk pop, pop rock Other songs in these genres:   There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back by Shawn Mendes   CAMS There are tracking shots in the video when it shows Shawn and the girl running during the faster paced part of the song. There is an over the shoulder shot in the video. A lot of the shots in the video are two-shots to show both Shawn and the girl. Editing The video starts with a wide shot of a beach, and then cuts to a black screen with Shawn's name on the screen in white text. The editors use cross-cutting to switch between scenes of Shawn singing at a concert and him with the girl various other settings. The editors cut from a closeup of Shawn and the girl holding hands to a medium long shot of them going down an escalator. Sound At the beginning of the video there is the ambient sound of a train going by in the background. The song is a diegetic sound an

My group for the Music Video

I've decided to do the music video project independently. This way I’ll be able to choose the song and make all of the decisions on my own, rather than having to do what someone else wants. Also, I can work on it when it works for me. Another benefit is that I can choose whether I want to do it at home or somewhere else. One other advantage is that I don't have to ask someone what they want me to do for the video.      The song I chose is Counting Stars. It is by the band OneRepublic. I like it because it has great lyrics and it makes you want to dance. I also really like it because I went to see a concert by OneRepublic recently. I like that this song is about a guy who is busy thinking instead of sleeping, which I sometimes do too.      I chose to use this song because I think it will be a great song for a music video. In fact the music video made by OneRepublic has 3.8 billion views on YouTube. Also, its one of my favorite songs to sing at home. Another reas
